15 Absolute Must-Have Gardening Products (According To An Avid Home Gardener)
After 10+ years of gardening, I’ve collected my fair share of gardening products. From little knick knacks that have been gifted, to higher investment items we’ve purchased ourselves. Plus, items brands have sent our way to trial. Let’s just say…there’s hundreds of gardening products and tools we’ve tried over the year. And after lots of testing, I’ve narrowed it down to my favs. So this list covers my 10 absolute must-have gardening products (according to an avid home gardener…me!).

1. Sproutbox Garden Galvanized Steel Raised Beds
Kicking off our list with a Canadian brand I have fallen in love with over the years. Sproutbox manufactures these gorgeous galvanized steel raised beds in a range of styles. They sent me their 17″ 9 in 1 bed almost 5 years ago. I installed it in my greenhouse and haven’t looked back since. Our garden now has 6 of them. Highly recommend!
2. Sproutbox Garden Seed Starting Kit
In second place is Sproutbox’s newest product, their seed starting kit. Now this is a brand new product to me, but I already love these seedling cells so much. I’m shocked at how much better the quality is compared to what I’ve been using for the past 10 years. They’re durable, made in Canada and come in a gorgeous colour palette. I know I’m going to be using these for years to come. And buying more and more.
3. Rain Point Automated Watering Timer
This product is one of the ways we’ve levelled up our garden. It’s made watering completely hands-off. This system easily attaches to your hose and has three watering modes. We’ve used Rain Point this past two seasons and have loved it. If you like to head to the cabin on the weekends or just want more time to enjoy Summer, this is the product for you.
4. SunBlaster LED Grow Lights
Next up is a product we’ve used for years. SunBlaster LED grow lights. These high-quality lights (designed for growing cannabis) help us grow healthy, vibrant seedlings indoors each Winter. I’ve had some of these lights for almost 10 years now and they’re still in great shape. This is a must-have gardening product for sure. Avoid the cheap grow lights and go with a SunBlaster!
5. VIVOSUN Fabric Grow Bags
If you follow me on Instagram, you already know how much I love these VIVOSUN grow bags. I’ve used them in our greenhouse for at least 4 gardening seasons and have had great results. They’re better than conventional plastic containers because they let your plants’ roots breath. They don’t over heat like plastic either. Plus, easy to roll up and store over Winter! I love these!
6. VIVOSUN Heated Seedling Mat
Another VIVOSUN product and another item that’s made our seed starting that much better. Since buying this simple little tool, it’s has helped us grow the best seedlings we’ve ever grown. So how do you use it? Just place the heated mat below your tray of seedlings. The mat heats to the optimal temperature, supporting root growth. It’s amazing the difference it makes. Once you invest in this heat mat, you’ll never go back.
7. Hulahoe Hand Weeder
Now this is another product that isn’t elaborate or fancy but really…works! This hand-held weeder has strong little teeth at the end of the metal. They grab pesky weed roots and yank them up. I love the size of it too. Makes it really easy to get between narrow rows. I use this almost weekly during the gardening season. And have gifted it to many gardeners too!
8. Pivot-All Ergonomic Wheelbarrow
Okay, this was a gift from my parents and I love it so much! Every gardener needs a wheelbarrow. No. Every gardener needs an ergonomic wheelbarrow. The handles on this Pivot-All Motion Tools wheelbarrow move with your wrist. It’s actually enjoyable to use. We love ours and highly recommend (hence why it’s made its way to the must-have gardening products list).
9. Clear Plastic Seed Storage Box
So funny story. But this actually isn’t a gardening product at all. I believe it’s intended to store photos. However, we’ve used it for years to store and organize seeds. And it works great! Now you might be thinking, “couldn’t you just use an old cardboard box for seed storage?” And while you could, let me tell you why this works so much better. First, the plastic makes it easy to see what’s in each container. But secondly, we label each container with planting out date. So come gardening season, I know exactly what seeds need to be planted and when.
10. High Yield Vegetable Gardening by Colin McCrate and Brad Halm
This book is my gardening bible! I come back to this book every year. It’s full of worksheets and actionable items. And has made me rethink how much food I can grow in my garden. There’s just so much goodness crammed into this book. From succession planting schedules, to garden layouts…I always recommend this book to new and experienced gardeners alike.
11. Veradek Planters
I love these sleek planters! They’re designed and made in Canada. And have so many great styles to choose form. Plus, they’re extremely durable. We have two on our front porch as well as their cooler. They’re probably the decor item I get the most compliments on. I love that they’ll last “forever” too.
12. Planta Greenhouses Shade Cloth
This is one of the best purchases we’ve ever made for our greenhouse. We hang it up throughout July & August and it reduces the temperature significantly. It’s from the brand Planta Greenhouses. They produce really durable greenhouse products as well as greenhouse kits. We’ve also purchased our greenhouse panels from them. Really like their brand and what the products they make! Your greenhouse plants will thank you for this one!
13. Hokuru Hori Hori Knife
I believe this is a must-have gardening tool for all gardeners! This Japanese gardening tool can be used for seed sowing, weeding and harvesting. I use it constantly and all season long in our garden. It’s sleek, practical and actually really useful.
14. 6 Layer Mesh Herb Drying Rack
This herb drying rack was a new garden purchase for us this season. But boy did we get good use out of it! I had it hanging in our basement and filled it with newly cut herbs every few weeks. It made it so easy to have a bulk of dried herbs for Winter storage. I just find it so much easier and less time consuming to use than an electric dehydrator. I know I’ll be using this for years to come!
15. Mini Mushroom Farms Growing Kit
Last but certainly not least, are one of my newer fav gardening products. This is a Canadian business I am so impressed by.
